The awareness of my daily habits

Post written by Orsolya Hernold

I have been reading the posts of zenhabits.net for over four years now, it has been a role model for my own blog. I wouldn’t want to get deep into daily habits here, there are much more information and inspiration there on forming healthy and quitting unhealthy habits from being in debt to losing weight. I just want to touch the topic of habits because they influence our lives profoundly, and if you would like to live a conscious life, your habits need some attention.

Let’s start with a provoking statement: habits and decisions make up our lives. Do you agree? What do you think? I have been watching closely my days, the repetitions in them and my routines in the last few weeks and found that a great chunk of my days is made up of my daily habits. My days are not about grandiose accomplishments and noisy successes, rather they are made up of meticulously done small tasks (all serving a consciously chosen, important purpose, though).

So what are these mundane little repetitions that shape my life?

You chose to have your habits long ago, now you have grown to be used to them. Be aware of repeated mundane activities to know what shapes your life, what kind of life your habits create. Make a list first something similar to mine, then look for habitual ways of talking, reacting, behaving. Is there anything you would like to change?
