How can I be assertive? (part 2)

I would like to guide you through a situation in which you can start practicing being assertive. First, think of a conversation where you feel your assertive rights have been violated. Then, start writing.

Now spend some time with your motives and relationship with this person.

If you believe the two of you are capable of reaching a goal satisfactory for both of you, then rewrite your side of the story using these principles:


Can you say and ask next time the sentences you have just written? Can you try to say one of them? Start experimenting with them in different situations – maybe it is easier to say to a stranger then to someone you have a long term relationship with. Start working with them and your confidence will grow.
